Blockies arrive with every buy
- Every $10 of $BLOCKY a wallet buys brings one Blocky. Buys add up per wallet: two buys of half that make one.
- Blockies are numbered in the order they arrive (#1, #2, …) and numbers are never reused.
- At most 10,000 Blockies live in the city at once. When it is full, new buyers join a waitlist and get the next free places, first come first served. Citizens never leave, so once the city is full of them it stays full.
- Big buys get their name on the skyline. One buy of $1,000+ builds a Whale Fountain, $2,500+ a Whale Tower downtown, $5,000+ a Whale Skyscraper, each named after the buyer and built before anything else. The name stays while the wallet keeps at least half of its Blockies; sell more and the building goes dark, FOR SALE, until the next whale of its size takes it over.
- Your Basename is your name here. If your wallet has a primary Basename (name.base.eth), the city log, your Blockies' cards, your fountain and the collection show it instead of your address.
- Buys are read from the $BLOCKY pool onchain, with the real wallet behind each trade (smart wallets included). Nothing is faked: no buys, no fees.
Newcomers and citizens
Every Blocky starts as a newcomer. Newcomers stay while their wallet holds the $BLOCKY that brought them: sell half and the newest half leave the city; tokens sent away count as sold. Their places go to the next wallets in line.
Opening day: when $100,000 of $BLOCKY has been bought in total (the city's "Bought" counter), trading opens. From then a Blocky held a day is a citizen for good: its wallet can sell every token and it stays, and it can be claimed as an NFT. On opening day that is nearly everyone; a Blocky bought later waits its a day. The tokens a wallet still holds cover its newcomers first, so citizens free the rest.
Leaving leaves a mark. Blockies that walk off the job take the blocks they placed on the current construction site with them, so it takes the rest of the crew longer. A big exit (20 or more Blockies at once) leaves the newest home, shop or office abandoned, boarded up and taped off, until the crew rebuilds it, before anything else. Landmarks and fountains are never touched.
The NFT: BaseCity Blockies (BCB)
- Citizens are NFTs. Once a Blocky is a citizen, connect the wallet that bought it on the claim page and claim. You pay the gas, a few cents on Base. Your Blocky's number is its token id.
- Free to trade from the start. A claimed Blocky is an ordinary NFT on OpenSea and every marketplace on Base, no lock, no waiting for the collection to fill. Only citizens are minted, so no NFT is ever taken back.
- Fair by design. Before opening day, selling costs Blockies; after it, a Blocky needs a day of holding: nobody can buy, dump the token and walk away with NFTs.
- Royalty 5% on secondary sales, paid to the BaseCity treasury.
- The image is the Blocky. Each NFT's portrait is drawn from the same 3D model that walks the city, and its metadata tracks the blocks it has placed.
Rarity
Every Blocky rolls a rarity and a trait from its number and the block of the buy that brought it. Nobody can know or pick a rare number before buying, and anyone can check the roll afterwards. Rare looks walk around the city too.
The city grows with its Blockies
The crew builds all the time, even when nobody is watching, and every visitor sees the same city. Bigger buildings take longer: a cottage goes up in minutes, apartments in an hour or two, a skyscraper in half a day or more. More Blockies make the crew faster (four times the crew, twice the speed), unlock landmarks, the metro, and more land.
It grows like a real city, in zones around Town Square: Downtown towers and offices, Midtown apartments, shops and parks, Suburbs of homes with yards, then the Outskirts: farms, wind turbines and solar fields, with an industrial park on the east bank. Some woods are kept for good as nature reserves, and the Blockies off shift go for walks there.
It is never finished. Once the land is full, the crew tears down the oldest homes, shops and offices and builds them bigger: cottages downtown become apartments, then towers. More Blockies reclaim more land; whale fountains and landmarks always come first.
Base Avenue. A row of plots kept for teams building on Base. A project that takes one gets a headquarters in its colours with its logo, as a community goal: it breaks ground once enough Blockies are here, and until then its plot says when. Click a sign to visit the project. A plot nobody has taken yet waits with a sign.
Base Builders
Real builders from the Base ecosystem build BaseCity alongside the Blockies, at 1.5× speed. They are added by hand, are not part of the NFT collection, and each has a voxel PFP anyone can download on the Base Builders page.
They run the city, too. The Base Builders sit on the City Council: Jesse, the founder of Base, is the Mayor; Brian, the CEO of Coinbase, is the Governor; and every other seat, from Fire Chief to Night Mayor, has its own office in town where its holder spends their breaks. The titles are for fun, a tribute, not real roles.
FAQ
Do I have to claim?
No. Your Blockies build the city either way, and citizens stay whether you claim them or not. Claiming makes them NFTs in your wallet, ready to trade.
I bought but see no Blocky
Buys show up within a minute. Check that you bought at least $10 in total from the wallet you connect, and that you still hold the $BLOCKY. If the city is full, you are on the waitlist.
When can I trade my Blockies?
On opening day, when $100,000 of $BLOCKY has been bought: claim, and it trades right away. The city's "Bought" counter shows how far there is to go. Blockies that arrive after it trade once held a day.
Do NFT holders earn anything?
Not today. Sharing revenue with Blocky holders is on the roadmap once $BLOCKY earns fees; nothing will start before it is announced.
Contracts
BaseCity is a game and a collectible, not an investment. Nothing here is financial advice; tokens and NFTs can lose value.
